DOGS TO CONTINUE TO ROAM FREE AT ST HELENS

sthelensbeachduverDogs will be allowed to continue to roam free on an East Wight beach after an idea to impose lead restrictions was dropped by the Council last night.

Members of the Isle of Wight Council’s executive committee have agreed to scrap plans to introduce a new rule on St Helens Beach that would mean dog walkers would have to keep their pets on leads at all times.

The U-turn decision is not surprising, with nearly 300 people opposing the idea – just 22 supported it.

The Dog Control Order was made to keep children safe on the beach, according to Cllr Luisa Hillard, however there have been no recorded incidents involving dogs and children in the last 5 years.
