A church in Ventnor has been told to silence their hourly chime following a single complaint to the Isle of Wight Council.
Holy Trinity Church near Bonchurch has been told that the noise the bells make is a nuisance and that the amount of noise generated (measured in decibels) exceeds that of the World Heath Organisation’s standards.
It could cost the congregation up to £2000 to switch of the chime during the nighttime hours and although no notice has been served by the Isle of Wight Council, the chime has been stopped whilst investigations into a resolve to the situation is conducted.
Local residents have spoke of their anger at the situation, with no other complaints having been submitted.
