UPDATED: Hovertravel has looked at the cost and conditions of commuting from the Island against the conditions of commuting in the capital.
With Hovertravel, unlike on the tube, you are guaranteed a seat and if you need assistance you are helped off and on the craft. Hovertravel provide free umbrellas for rainy days and terminals have scenic seaside views.
Neil Chapman, Managing director of Hovertravel, explains:
“Living on one of the most beautiful islands in the world and commuting to the mainland need not be expensive. Hovertravel offers the quickest way to get to work, if you need to cross the Solent, with a journey time of under 10 minutes at a cost of £2.88 – less than a cost of motorway service station latte.”
“We all agree the Island is a very special place and it is connected to the mainland by our fast and frequent service, so with Hovertravel you can enjoy the best of both worlds. Now ask yourself – do you mind the gap?”
UPDATE: A calculation of the £2.88 per crossing figure is included below;
Cost of 12 month annual season card = £1500 divided by 52 weeks of travel – travelling 5 days per week (divide by 5) 2 crossings per day (divide by 2) = £2.88.
This is based on a 12 month Season Card (which provides an additional month free at the end of the card – 13 months) based on 52 weeks travelling (excluding 4 weeks of year for holiday) of 5 days a week and 2 journeys per day.
