A care home in East Cowes is to close its doors next month following a speedy decision, with the loss of 27 job jobs.
Osborne Cottage on York Avenue will close on 15th October forcing 9 elderly residents to move to a new home and putting 27 people out of a job.
The closure has been blamed on the residential home no longer being financially viable, according to the not-for-profit Somerset Care who run the home.
Somerset Care Chief Executive, Alyson Martin, has said:
“Sadly, despite looking for alternative solutions, the home has simply become unviable.
“Our main priority at this difficult time is to ensure the continuity of care of our residents and we are in talks with them and their family members to make sure that each person gets the right support for them.”
Unison branch secretary on the Isle of Wight, Mark Chiverton, met staff this week and has said they are devastated.
Somerset Care are helping the out-going staff to find alternative employment.
