A rural bus service has resumed today (Monday) for residents and visitors in the Niton area after three weeks without the vital service.
The Number 6 Southern Vectis route normally serves the St Lawrence and Undercliff areas, however the closure of Undercliff Drive for six months for stablisation works means that the vital bus route is unable to pass through the road closure connecting Ventnor with Niton, therefore diverting via Whitwell instead.
After campaigning by locals and discussions between the Isle of Wight Council and the Island’s bus operator Southern Vectis, an extended service has been put in place to cover this shortfall, bringing a bus back to Niton and the Undercliff.
Buses will now serve Niton village to Undercliff Garage before looping back around on St Catherine’s Road, Sandrock Road and back towards Niton before heading to Whitwell and onwards to Ventnor.
On the other side of the closure, the Number 31 bus will continue further to Spindlers Road in St Lawrence to provide a service on the Ventnor side of Undercliff Drive.
