UPDATED: Residents in Cowes have been experiencing discolouration to their water supply this morning (Monday) following a burst water main in the town.
Engineers Clancy Docwra have been in Newport Road since 09:45 repairing the main pipe, which has resulted in ten properties having no water at all since around 10:20 when the supply was shut off to make the repair.
Island Echo readers have been noticing discoloured water coming from their taps.
A Southern Water spokesperson has this afternoon said:
“If you experience this [discoloured water], run your kitchen tap for a couple of minutes and it should run clear. This discoloration is caused by sediment (iron oxide) which collects on the inside of iron water mains and can be dislodged by a disturbance to the pipe, such as a burst. It is nothing to worry about.”
The spokesperson continued:
“We’re working as fast as we can to repair the pipe and restore supplies and we’d like to apologise to all those affected”.
UPDATE @ 16:30 – Water supplies have now been restored, according to a Southern Water spokeswoman.
