Brading Town take on Stoneham Reserves in the Hants Trophy Semi-Final at Vicarage Lane this Saturday (12th March).
Pan are already through to the Hampshire Vase final, where they will play Chandlers Ford side St Francis. Shanklin have battled their way to the final of the Hampshire Trophy.
If Brading Town beat Stoneham reserves, the Trophy final will be a repeat of the one in last year’s competition: Brading Town v Shanklin. The Romans lifted the trophy last year after beating runners-up Shanklin 4-0 at Beatrice Avenue.
Romans’ manager Steve Lawton has said:
“I’m expecting a tough game. When you get to the later stages of a cup competition, you know the opposition are going to be a good side. They are doing very well in their league and will be coming to us full of confidence. We will have to be at our best if we want to get to the final for the second season in a row.
“Beating Whitecroft & Barton in our last game should give the boys a huge lift. We too are in good shape – we have only lost 1 in the last 14 games (apart from a penalty shootout defeat). Hopefully, we will give a good account of ourselves – should be a cracker!”
Steve does not want to make a prediction for the outcome of a possible Brading v Shanklin final this year, saying: “My focus is totally on Saturday’s game. I’m not one to look beyond that.”
Let’s hope for a big crowd at Vicarage Lane on Saturday and a 2nd successive all-Island final.
