Boat owners in the Cowes area are being warned about a recent spate of thefts.
A number of incidents have occurred targeting fishing boats and other vessels since the beginning of October, with the latest incident taking place at the weekend.
It is believed that the suspects are using another vessel at night, such as a dingy, to reach boats that are moored alongside pontoons and other berthings. On each occasion the cabins have been broken into – fishing equipment and a generator were amongst some of the items stolen.
Investigating Officer PC Martin Egerton said:
“We advise boat owners to be vigilant and to report any suspicious behaviour to the police.
“I would encourage boat owners to check that their boat cabins are secure, and to record the makes and models of any equipment stored on their boats.
“If you see anyone suspicious in the area please record their descriptions and contact the police on 101.”
Hampshire Constabulary’s Marine Unit are continuing to patrol the River Medina.
