Planning for your future and making a Will is vital to ensuring that your wishes are met and your estate is divided amongst the people and causes you care about.
Having a correctly written Will removes any doubt about your wishes, which helps minimise undue stress and the risk of disputes amongst relatives and friends left behind. It is also worth remembering that without a Will the Government can decide how your estate is allocated and you may have to pay unnecessary inheritance tax.
To help combat these factors Age UK Isle of Wight (Age UKIW) is working with a selection of Island based legal firms to launch a Will Writing Scheme that will run throughout March 2014. The scheme is open to any Isle of Wight residents over the age of 50 years old that are looking to draft a new Will, or update an existing one. In return for a donation to Age UKIW of £75 for a single Will or £150 for a joint Will all of the legal firms participating have generously agreed to donate their time free of charge to help you write your Will.
There are a total of 7 legal firms (with 13 offices across the Island) joining the scheme, with staff from Eldridges, Jerome & Co, Paul Wheeler, Paul Wilks & Co, RJR Solicitors, Walter Gray & Co and Wilks Price Hounslow taking part.
Bobbie Newman, Age UKIW’s Appeals & Fundraising Officer said of the scheme:
“The importance of writing a Will can not be understated, it is a vital document in planning for your future, and for the future of your loved ones and causes that you care about. The Will Writing Scheme gives our older residents a chance to save some money on the cost of a normal Will, whilst having the bonus of donating to a worthwhile cause that is dedicated to helping them live well in later life.
“It is absolutely fantastic that so many local legal firms are supporting the scheme, their time, expertise and generosity is greatly appreciated by all of us at Age UK Isle of Wight. All of the money donated goes to helping us continue and expand our important work throughout the Island community.”
Taking part is simple, all you have to do is ring up your chosen legal firm from the list provided (below), provisionally book your appointment and then return a form with your donation to Age UK Isle of Wight.
