Police are today appealing for witnesses and information after a young woman was assaulted by a group of youths on Friday evening.
The incident occurred near to the entrance of Battery Gardens sometime between 21:30 and 22:30 as the 22-year-old woman was walking home along the footpath at Fern Cliff in Sandown.
The young woman was approached by a number of youngsters who assaulted her and stole items from her handbag including £15 in cash, a bottle of Rose Echo Falls wine, some tobacco, Ted Baker perfume and make up.
The woman received some minor injuries including cuts and grazes in the incident, but declined any medical attention.
Investigating Officer, Detective Constable Russell of Newport CID said,
“Incidents of this type are extremely rare on the Isle of Wight, but residents are urged to consider their personal safety when walking around at night and where possible stay to main routes and be with other people.”
