Wightlink-Wight Mountain Cycle Race Team riders travelled to Goodwood last Tuesday to race in the penultimate round of the Summer Series last Tuesday (5th July).
James Veal had a tough task up against some of the South’s top E/1/2 riders but put in a good effort, making solo attacks, and trying to force a split in the bunch. James just missed out on a move which left him to fight it out in a bunch sprint for the minor places.
Elvis Belton, Kev Foster, and Chris Marsh worked well as a team in the 3rd Cat race, which was significantly slower at the start than in previous weeks. Elvis got away in a 3 man break, leaving Chris and Kev in the bunch with the job of neutralising any attacks.
With only a few laps to go, Elvis got caught by the chasing group, and the race ended with a bunch sprint. Kev took to the front before the chicane in an attempt to give Elvis and Chris a good lead out. Elvis took 9th place in the sprint with Chris and Kev finishing just outside the top 10.
On Wednesday, Ewan Cook was in action in the Under 16 Portsmouth Evening Circuits. A fast-paced race and Ewan put in a great effort trying to wear down the other competitors and came in 2nd in the sprint to the finish line. Ewan is enjoying the track racing and gaining experience with every event.
