Kev Chant, Matt Allsopp and Oli Nolan travelled to the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth for the 1st round of the 2022 Omega series on Saturday 9th April.
The race, classified as a ‘National B’ event, had attracted some of the best E/1/2 riders from teams across the South of England.
Kev, Matt, and Oli were all keen to carry their great early season form into the race. Several breaks went from the off, with all 3 riders working on the front to reel back any threatening attacks. Nevertheless, a group of 5 riders managed to gain a gap. Oli was able to bridge across with another rider, with the now 7-strong break working together to gain a lap on the field. Meanwhile, Matt and Kev worked well controlling the main bunch and neutralising any further moves.
The final sprint was hotly contested, with the bunch chasing down a rider who had managed to solo away with 2 laps to go. Kev powered through the field to take a top 10 placing overall, while Matt and Oli (guaranteed 7th place from the earlier breakaway effort) finished safely in the bunch – ensuring a successful team performance.
So in other words, a pretty below average performance?
