Paul was pleased to have completed his 1st Ironman distance triathlon, and commented:

“Overall, I feel a great sense of achievement having gone from not being able to run to the end of the road in 2020 to completing an Ironman in 2022. I will 100% be doing another, as I certainly learnt a lot about the importance of hydration and electrolytes, which was almost certainly the cause of the cramp on the run.”

New member, Olly Hodkinson – who has just taken up triathlon training recently – knew this was not going to be an easy task to complete the half ironman distance, but the thought of doing this for his grandad made him push on. Olly was doing this event to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Charity in honour of his grandad.

Olly started with a solid swim and completed the 1900m in 40mins 33 secs. With the tactics of taking the bike easy just to complete, he worked steadily to complete the 56mile bike leg in 4hours 19mins. He completed the half marathon run in 2:38:16 to finish the Half Ironman in 7:51:59, coming 9th in the 20-24 age category.
