Eagle-eyed residents in Ryde caught on camera the moment a man trespassed onto the railway tracks and graffitied an Island Line train yesterday (Sunday) – but Police failed to attend the scene and the suspect fled.
The individual – whose identity Island Echo has decided to obscure for legal reasons – was witnessed acting suspiciously on the tracks near Ryde St John’s for around an hour. The man pulled out a spray can and began defacing the former London Underground train, which is due to be replaced later this year.
Local residents alerted Police to the crime in progress but, according to those who raised the alarm, officers never showed.
The suspect fled when he noticed he had been caught in the act.
The photograph above shows that the male was about to take a photograph of his own – documenting the graffiti he had just created.
Island Line trains were suspended over the weekend to enable work to the network to be undertaken. Trains are now back up and running but will be suspended over the coming weekend too.

Leave the Old Girls alone to see out their days in peace.
It’s railway bankers.
When you have a society that is on the whole happy to accept the work of some graffiti artists (ie Banksy) then are you surprised that others copy. Just because one person work may be more interesting or better quality does not make a difference. Either it is illegal to vandalise or its not.
Perhaps they should have pretended that he was speeding instead?
Or possibly asked the gentleman concerned to come back and commit the crime on a weekday during office hours?
Too many trying to copy USA.. I have no idea why people want to destroy everything, even have some tagging their neighbourhood, or is it their drug boundary. Too much idle time… and through lockdown why were all these school age people down the beach daily smoking and drinking beer, leaving their empties and other rubbish on the beach.. when thy should have been studying to keep up their school marks… oh no, sod school work, let the Gov drop the % again like every year… who cares if people cannot spell or talk properly, ‘ because we can just swear instead and use txt talk… oh and act hard… beat kids women and old men up.. steal vehicles, drive like idiots.. lack of police to stop many, those that get caught, minimum fines, parents say their child would never do that.. so sad… this Island is quickly going down hill due to people not caring about here they live, no respect.
“Police failed to show”. Nothing new there then.
Its bansky
I think some of the graffiti on the mainland line is amazing, real talent and brightens the dirty dark areas of the railway, this guy tagging trains probably couldn’t tag his own name right. Would like to see what he actually painted though
