With their squad ravaged by injuries and illness, Isle of Wight only had 16 players fit and available for the game against Aldershot & Fleet, which they lost comprehensively. Aldershot and Fleet have improved considerably and climbed the table during the season, only narrowly losing to the Isle of Wight in December in the reverse fixture on the Island, and from the start, were the clearly stronger side, in conditions which alternated between hail showers and sunshine. Isle of Wight competed bravely in all facets of the game but were outgunned, though they were rewarded for their efforts in the closing stages with the final score of the game. Strong carries by Keith Wallace and Tom Turtle led to repeated infringements by the hosts before the referee awarded a penalty try to close proceedings. Full time: Aldershot & Fleet 59-7 Isle of Wight Isle of Wight: Young, C Browne, Jones-Evans, McQueen, Wynyard-Wright, Huish, Rolfe, Newnham, Turtle, Blackburn, D Bishop, J Bishop, Bennett, Puzey, Wallace, Scandrett The Islanders will hope to welcome some players back for their next league game on 6th April, their last home game of the season against Overton. This Saturday sees the club hold a centenary game as a Club XV take on an IWRFC President’s XV, kicking off at 14:30. This game is preceded by a mixed touch game and a Vectis RFC u10s exhibition game, both starting at 13.30. Also, a raffle will be held with proceeds going to MNDA IW. All are welcome to the games and celebrations!
