Young player award winner Harri Jones-EvansIsle of Wight RFC held their 2023-24 end-of-season awards event at the club recently. Blessed with glorious weather, the club held a family event attended by almost 100, with delicious food and children’s activities followed by the award ceremony and a silent disco. The following awards were announced on the evening: Biffa award: George Huish Newcomer Award: Bradley Martin Young player of the year: Harri Jones-Evans Player of the Year: Cameron Browne Chairman’s Award: Betsy Blackman President’s Award: Kieran Leahy Players’ player of the year: Martin Newnham Players’ player award winner Martin Newnham Further afield, 2 of the club’s foremost volunteers were honoured at the recent Hampshire RFU Volunteer Awards held at Havant RFC. George Huish was nominated in the Unsung Hero category for his hard work in the role of club treasurer over the last 2 years, while Betsy Blackman was nominated in the Game Changer category for her innovative and tireless approach to club social events and the bar/social space offering. An IWRFC Spokesperson has said:
“We can’t thank these 2 enough for all of their hard work on behalf of the club”.
Meanwhile, Summer Touch rugby has started at the club at Wootton Rec on Thursday evenings, with over 50 in attendance on opening night. This is open to male and female aged 14 and upwards, of any experience or none – all welcome for a 18:30 start.
