Success has continued for the ladies of Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club at Woolston Regatta last weekend.
The ladies senior pair of Daisy and Emily Faithfull executed the 1st win of the day and their 3rd point towards the Hants & Dorset championship. They were also part of the trio that secured a clean sweep of the ladies sculling events with Daisy, Emily and Yasmin Wright crossing the line 1st in the ladies’ senior, junior and novice sculls respectively. This earned Wright her 2nd point and promotion to junior status.
Alex Robertson and Joe Murray were back competing and put in a strong performance, gaining 4th place in the senior pair. They were also both back out on the water for a highly competitive senior sculls race, where Murray and Robertson earnt 6th and 7th place respectively.
For the last race of the day, Emily Faithfull (cox), Daisy Faithfull, Alex Robertson, and Yasmin Wright teamed up with Austin Smith from Ryde Rowing Club to compete in the mixed 4s, where they claimed the runners-up spot in a close race to the line with a crew from Itchen Imperial.
Despite Shanklin’s lack of entries, they managed to obtain 3rd place in the overall aggregate – an excellent result considering they had 5 athletes competing. There is now a week’s break in the season before returning to Isle of Wight water as Newport Rowing Club host their regatta.
