Isle of Wight goalkeeper Simon Moore returned to the Coventry starting line-up against QPR on Saturday (22nd January) after being out of the squad due to COVID-19.
The Coventry City number 1 then made a further appearance in the Sky Blues 1-0 victory in the Championship game against Stoke on Tuesday.
During Simon’s COVID-enforced break, his position had been taken by Coventry’s second choice keeper, Ben Wilson.
Simon had been strongly linked with a transfer to Steven Gerrard’s premiership side Aston Villa, where he would have been a back-up keeper for Villa’s Emiliano Martinez. The potential transfer to Villa had been tweeted by transfer specialist Pete O’Rourke and publicised by the online sports paper TheHardTackle. The proposed move would have needed to have taken place by the end of this January’s transfer window.
Aston Villa has instead plumped for Sweden goalkeeper Robin Olsen as an understudy for Martinez, who they have now signed on loan from Italian club, Roma. Olsen had previously been on loan at Simon’s former club, Championship side Sheffield United.
Simon is expected to don the goalkeeper’s jersey this Saturday once again when the Sky Blues travel to face 8th-placed Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.
