Residents and tourists on the Isle of Wight will be able to take advantage of an extra 4-day Bank Holiday next year to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Buckingham Palace has confirmed the dates for the extra Bank holiday which will celebrate the 70-year reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II – a milestone that no British King or Queen has ever reached before.
In a statement, Buckingham Palace said that the extra holiday will provide an opportunity for communities and people to come together and celebrate the historic event.
The Queen and other members of the Royal Family will tour the country close to the time and undertake a number of special engagements, with celebrations including a special party and concert at the palace alongside a Derby at Epsom Racecourse.
On the Island, it’s expected that a number of events will be held, similar to those that took place at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012.
Buckingham Palace said:
“An extended bank holiday will provide an opportunity for communities and people throughout the United Kingdom to come together to celebrate the historic milestone.
“The four days of celebrations will include public events and community activities, as well as national moments of reflection on The Queen’s 70 years of service.”

The Bank Holiday will take place between Thursday 2nd June 2022 and Sunday 5th June 2022.
I hope that the events to be held will be the only similarity to the Diamond Jubilee in 2012. The weather was awful then. It rained all the time and was as cold as you like.
I am a staunch royalist, but as I don’t work for the Island’s council or in an office in London, visiting only on high days and hollibobs, then it won’t make any difference to me. Most people will have to work as their employer will choose not to recognise this as a proper Bank Holiday. Beanos and barbecues for the few once again… ‘Government cons low paid workers out of traditional Bank Holiday’ ought to be the title.
OH Heck that means more national TONS of strewn litter and loutish behaviour. Heck most have never had its so, so easy peasy good, in ALL providing near nursemaid BRITAIN.
