divertrafficroadworksEmergency roadworks being carried out at Newport Road in Upper Ventnor means the road is closed between Ocean View Road and Down Lane from 9am this morning (Friday) until 17:00 on Friday 2nd August.

The closure means Southern Vectis Route 3 towards Newport will be diverted via Ocean View Road, left into Upper Gills Cliff Road, right into Whitwell Road, Ventnor Road, High Street, Whitwell Road, West Street and left into Newport Road to rejoin the normal journey. The diversion will operate in both directions.

During the roadworks, a shuttle bus will operate a daily hourly service between Upper Ventnor and Shanklin bus station. This will leave from York Road, Upper Ventnor at 20 minutes past the hour and Shanklin bus station at 50 minutes past the hour between 7am and 7pm. School buses have also been effected by the closure. From this afternoon, Route 106’s driver has been instructed to operate from school via Shanklin to make drop offs in Lower Ventnor; Route 311’s driver has been instructed to take all students from 311/312 back to Wroxall and Upper Ventnor; Route 312’s driver has been instructed to take all students from 311/312 back to Lower Ventnor, Whitwell and Niton; Route 316’s driver has been instructed to operate normal route as far as Upper Ventnor then turn at York Road and divert via Shanklin to St Lawrence, however, the driver is confident that he will be able to load students for Wroxall and Upper Ventnor onto the 317 at Medina as there is more space available at this time of year, and then he will be able to operate from Winford direct to serve the Undercliff / St Lawrence quicker.

Furthermore, Route 330’s driver has been instructed to divert from Godshill via Whitwell then drop off students in reverse order ie Southford Farm first and Ventnor Town last, students for Wroxall and Upper Ventnor will be moved on an additional 21 seat Solo (also showing number 330) which has been arranged to leave Christ The King at 15:50 and Carisbrooke College at 15:55; SEN5 – The crew are making appropriate arrangements to return all children home in the most effective manner / route by consultation with the relevant parents when picking up on tomorrow morning’s lift.
