Newport’s Riverside Vaccination Centre has celebrated a huge milestone after giving out its 50,000th coronavirus jab yesterday (Saturday).
The Solent NHS Vaccination hub hit the incredible milestone when the 50,000th vaccination was delivered into the arm of 25 year old Gemma Duer.
Gemma received her first shot of the BioNTech Pfizer vaccine amid balloons and congratulations from clinical staff, volunteers and firefighters at the centre.

The team at The Riverside Centre headed up by Sarah Stringer (senior manger), Janice Salter (matron), Michelle Martin (clinical shift lead) and Emmeline Payne (vaccination centre manager) have worked tirelessly over the last months vaccinating the Island’s population.
Sharing the news on Facebook, the friends of Freshwater Fire Station said:
“We’re especially proud of Freshwater Fire Stations Watch Manager Kev Garrett who has been part of the team from the start, together they have potentially saved many thousands of lives.”
Work at the vaccination centre will continue as all adults aged 18 and above are now invited to be vaccinated.
