Thursday 12th September is ‘Re-use Ya Shoes!’ day, and as another school year gets under way, there is still time to recycle your old shoes for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
So whether your trainers are looking tired, your shoes have lost their sole or your stilettos down at heel, they can all be recycled to raise vital funds to keep the Air Ambulance flying and saving lives.
‘Re-use Ya Shoes!’ day is an important day in the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance calendar, and we are hoping to collect a record number of shoes from participating schools around the country. Schools that are getting involved in the campaign will be asked to see how many bags they can fill and if they can build the highest tower of shoes, with prizes available for the school with the most shoes collected.
Much like the ‘Bag A Bra’ campaign, the shoes are sold on through reputable traders in other countries, or if they are in really bad condition they can be used for parts to repair other footwear, so nothing is wasted.
For more information about ‘Re-use Ya Shoes!’ please visit the charity website

Thursday 12th September will be the scheduled collection day when re-cycling partners Bag It Up Ltd will drive around to any schools/nurseries that have taken part in collecting old shoes. Alternatively, old shoes can be taken to the nearest HIOWAA textile re-cycling bank, a list of which of which can be found on the charity website. Please make sure that all shoes are dry and in bags
