An Isle of Wight artist has used old poppies from last year’s Remembrance Day events across the Island to create these eight poppy covers in Newport’s St Thomas’ Square ahead of Remembrance Sunday.
The covers have been placed over the metal posts next to the war memorial, which in previous years have been wrapped in hazard tape to highlight them to passing pedestrians.
Artist Ursula Gray used hundreds of poppies to create the covers, which themselves are made out of old house ‘for sale’ signs, donated by Hose Rose Dicksons. All materials used for the covers have been recycled.
The covers were installed yesterday (Monday) by Ursula and Isle of Wight Council officer Bob Nelson.
