Police say they have closed their investigation into the death of a 53-year-old man following an incident on a building site in Newport last year.
Emergency services were called to Atkinson Drive on 13th October 2016 after a bricklayer suffered a severe head injury following an unwitnessed fall from a first floor exterior area.
Despite the best efforts of medical teams and fire crews, David Shayler of High Street, Ryde died at Southampton General Hospital some 6 days later.
Hampshire Constabulary immediately launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death but now say that they will not be taking any further action.
A spokesperson for the force has said:
“The exact circumstances surrounding how the 53-year-old man came to sustain these injuries was thoroughly investigated and a decision has now been reached along with our colleagues from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) that no further action will be taken in relation to this matter by Hampshire Constabulary.”
The Health and Safety Executive are continuing their investigations into whether or not the incident was as a result of breaches in health and safety law.
