Police were alerted to a 5ft snake slithering around in Sandown this afternoon (Bank Holiday Monday).
Officers have shared this photograph of the snake, which was found in the Perowne Way area of the town. It’s thought to have escaped from a residential address.
With the help of the Isle of Wight Zoo, the reptile has been identified as being a corn snake – approximately 60 inches in length.
The snake has now been recovered by the RSPCA.
If you are missing a corn snake then call Police on 101, quoting 31-564.
When Ryde is entombed in concrete one expects far more of the householders to try to have a link with nature as little natural will remain. So expect more escaped snakes in our midst then.

Vic, I think, means as our countryside and its wildlife is taken from us, then on large housing estates many children and adults then feel the need to keep exotic pets, which, if safe is fine, but if illegal could cause problems when they escape.
Also dealers etc will keep huge angry dogs to protect themselves and as a status symbol further endangering the children in that area.
