The Bembridge Scout Cooking Competition received a food donation of fruit and vegetables through Sainsbury’s Newport community budget.
The cooking competition is an annual event, where scouts Team up into groups of 4-6 to make a meals for all of their Teams. This year was made even trickier for them as they had to make all the meals using open fire for cooking with only, no pots or pans.
Talking about the unique event, Tanya Blake from Sainsbury’s Newport said: “It was very interesting watching the scouts making a meal and a dessert using only 5 fruit and vegetables with meat or fish. Having to cook all the foods in a “backwoods style cooking” meaning no use of pots or pans in 2 hours.
“All the Teams made an excellent effort of making such lovely looking and tasty meals. A lot of imaginative menu’s too, with just a few ingredients.
“They all did a fantastic job – and a great use of Team work.”
