policetapeHampshire Constabulary are investigating an assault on a 25-year-old woman who was left with a swollen face and a black eye after a man punched her in the face while she was sitting outside a Newport help centre.

The incident took place at around 20:35 on Thursday as the victim was sitting on the wall outside the FIZZ help centre – near the Lord Louis library. An unknown man ran over and punched her in the face before running off in the direction of Church Litten park.

Police have confirmed that a 17-year-old man from Sandown has been questioned on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH) and bailed until 16th October pending further enquiries.

Now, officers are appealing for witnesses to the assault to come forward.
