Sainsbury’s Newport has presented Bembridge Angling Club with a community grant of £100 worth of food for their charity BBQ evening in aid of the RNLI, which raised an incredible £800.
Celebrating their 50th Anniversary, the angling club set out to raise funds that will help the local RNLI stationed at Bembridge, who provide a vital role for the angling club with rescue operations.
Derek Ohren of Bembridge Angling Club said:
“It was decided to incorporate our 50th anniversary with a fund raising event for the RNLI, also to organises a fund raising fishing competition for the club.
It was a great response from club members and family to support this event, with local brewery Yates, and many other local companies all helping to support this cause. It had a great turn out of over a 100 people with music from the 60’s,70’s,80’s, with the support of our main sponsors Sainsbury’s this was truly a success”.
The Sainsbury’s Community Grant scheme, helping charitable groups in the local community, is funded by sales of ‘Bags for Life’. So for customers at Sainsbury’s Newport Isle of Wight buying a ‘Bag for Life’, this means that they are not only doing great things for the environment, but are also making a contribution to their local community.
Sainsbury’s Newport Isle of Wight Store Manager, Paul Dyer said:
“Our store is at the heart of the local community and it is important that we can do as much as we can to support it. When we heard about Bembridge Angling Club we were really pleased to be able to help out.”
