Pizza Express in Newport is included on a list of 73 restaurants that will close across the country.
Up to 1,100 jobs are set to be lost as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, which has led to a significant downturn in trade for the national chain.
The branches are being closed following approval of a company voluntary arrangement (CVA). Around 16% of stores across the UK are closing.
In a statement, it has been said:
“The successful vote unlocks the company’s ability to actively address the challenges brought by Covid-19, securing over 9,000 jobs in the UK.
“The directors of Pizza Express thank its creditors for their support during this period and look forward to ongoing partnership as the hospitality industry recovers to growth”.
Pizza Express is owned by Hony Capital, a Chinese company. They purchased the chain in 2014 for £900million.

Our own fault for not using it enough but Pizza Express was absolutely brilliant with it’s gluten-free range and procedures. We’ll mis it.
