The Island’s MP, Andrew Turner, is launching a new Discussion Group – giving Islanders the opportunity to talk about current issues with him and each other in a relatively relaxed and informal setting.
The first meeting will take place on Thursday 29th May at 18:00 in the restaurant of the Riverside Centre in Newport. The meeting will last for a maximum of 90 minutes.
Mr Turner said:
“During a series of exchanges on Twitter it became clear that a number of people are keen to talk about current affairs and issues, but find the limit of 140 characters limiting. I thought it would be interesting to organise a meeting so that people can exchange views face-to-face and take part in discussions about matters of local and national interest. It will also be useful to me, in my role as the Island’s MP, to hear the views and ideas of Islanders – and for them to be able to ask me questions about my own opinions.
“People with any political views, and indeed none, are welcome to attend – but in order for everybody present to be able to contribute, places will be limited. Priority will be given to those who let my office know in advance that they wish to attend. The subject of the first meeting will be ‘employment’ as so many Islanders have already contacted me on the issue.”
You can guarantee a place at the meeting by phoning Andrew Turner’s office on 01983 530808 or by emailing [email protected]. If this new initiative is a success further meetings will be arranged with future subjects chosen by those attending and the format may change based on experience and the views of participants.
