Parking permits issues to those designated as key workers are no longer valid, according to the Isle of Wight Council.
The key worker parking scheme was launched at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic to allow those on duty as part of the COVID-19 response to park for free.
As of yesterday (Monday 21st June), the permits have ceased to be valid, with anyone with a permit or letter now once again needing to adhere to any applicable parking restrictions and to pay the appropriate fee.
The Isle of Wight Council website says:
‘The withdrawal of this permit is in line with the Government Website which remains unchanged irrespective of the delay for lifting Covid-19 restrictions.’
Several Island residents affected by the withdrawal of the permits have raised their concerns and anguish over the change to Island Echo, with some who work as nurses and doctors having been already been caught out since the permits were withdrawn yesterday.
One of the main complaints about the permits being withdrawn is that no large-scale announcement has been made, leading those using them to face potential parking fines.

Typical, you would think the council would wait until July 19th…. oh well looks like this lot are going back to the old “Dave Stewart” ways of doing things. Bleed ’em dry me hearties !!!!
The permits have ceased to be valid, not “seized”.
Would have been polite to inform those that held them they weren’t valid from the 21st June.
I hope if anyone did get a parking ticket that they get it dismissed …..
Most of us have just got on with OUR jobs during this pandemic, we don’t get ANY special priviledges so why should the NHS, many have done LESS and many more have not done ‘more’ only a very few.
what a small minded response. Some never stopped working at all and last year worked bank holidays too. I’m not NHS and I have carried on throughout the whole thing. Do you think that the free parking these staff got makes any difference other than many of them not having to spend £500 a year for a bloody council permit to look after ignorant people like you who can only respond with jealousy over a “special privilege”
The NHS staff on the Island work tirelessly so that we have been able to get vaccinated, saving lives and keeping critical care treatment going. Its a shame people like you dont appreciate their work.
What alternative reality are you living in, you sound bitter. Don’t give yourself a heart attack, you might need the NHS. What do you do then that allowed YOU to work during lockdown, AirBNB ????
The governments furlough scheme has been extended, so why are we taking away much needed help for poorly paid, hard working NHS staff who are working tirelessly to keep us all safe? Without them the Covid vaccination scheme would not be making a success. Shame on this government for quietly taking this away from them! They are the unsung heroes. What good did all that clapping do for them? This is a slap in the face for our keyworkers.
IoW council money grabbing yet again!
Whats next a breathing tax?
