Over 70 riders turned out for the 1st round of the Wightlink-Wight Mountain CRT Evening Series on the Ningwood 10 Mile TT Course last Thursday (21st April).

Wightlink-Wight Mountain Cycle Race Team rider Kev Chant pulled out yet another awesome ride, averaging almost 30mph over the 10miles, to take the Overall title in 20 minutes 24 seconds, beating Alastair Luxford (Full Gas) who powered home in 20.47 for 2nd place with James Veal (WLWM) pulling out a 21.49 to take 3rd on the night.

There were some impressive times set by the Junior riders with new WLWM signing, Ewan Cook, romping home in 23.17 to take first place in his category and a top 10 place in the overall standings. Runner up, Billy Williams (NAUT Cycling) celebrated his birthday with a PB of 25.12, and Lottie Van Der Helstraete (IOW Triathlon Club) put in a solid performance to win her category in a time of 28.04 with Kaitlin Wilson (IOW Triathlon Club) coming home 2nd in 33.10.

Russ Mellor aka CutLaserCut came up trumps again with a stylish memento for each of the competitors, and more funds were raised for the team’s local charity, Mountbatten Isle of Wight.

Organisers Jerry and Julie Cooper said:

“The TTs this year are proving to be more popular than ever with the Island’s triathletes, the local cycling community, and riders from the mainland. It’s just brilliant to have such a diverse mix of cyclists signing up to compete or just give it a go.

“We’re now fortunate to have some great local sponsors and would like to thank Michelle, Neil and their staff at West Wight Alpacas and Llamas for their continued support and to Russ Mellor, aka CutLaserCut, who came up trumps again with a stylish memento for each of the competitors.”
