New research from comparethemarket.com reveals that the Island’s roads are the most improved in the country.
The comparison website has taken a look at which UK locations had the highest percentage of roads requiring maintenance in 2008/2009, as well as the areas which have made the biggest improvements to its roads over the next 10 years to 2018/2019.
A, B and C classified roads across the Isle of Wight have been the most improvement in the whole of the country. The Isle of Wight went from having 12% of A roads in need of repair to 0% in 2018/19, with over 500km of highway being rebuilt or resurfaced.
Dan Hutson, head of motor insurance at comparethemarket.com, said:
“Not only can badly maintained roads cause frustration to our daily journeys, they can also cause damage to our vehicles, which can be expensive to fix.
“It’s great to see areas such as the Isle of Wight, having well-kept roads, making for much safer and more enjoyable places to drive in. However, it’s important that all local councils continue to invest in road maintenance, especially over the coming months as we head towards winter and the hazardous driving conditions it brings”.

Yet more fake news
Roads have been done cheaply and fall into disrepair quickly.
april has come early
Holyhoks
Who gave them that information…. must have been island roads.
Every single man woman and child on the island could tell you that there was never ever 0% of A roads needing repair at any time!
indeed fake news and must be april fools as you say.
What a JOKE
ISLAND ROADS CANNOT EVEN FILL A POTHOLE
What’s that stink? Oh yes – total bullshit. There are several roads near me that are in a shocking state and desperate for repair and have been so for at least 5 years – and Island Roads are WELL aware of them. So 0%? I think not
Agreed, don’t know how they got to the conclusion that 0% were in disrepair
“Most improved in the country” as Sandown road begins to fall apart not even a year after work was done.
Coronavirus side effect – illusions
Unbelievable
I would say worse Roads in UK
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Good one!
god help the rest of the uk
Island roads put are only putting a thin layer of tarmac on a sub standard base. They only last 2 years and they have to repair them. The council and island roads are a joke.
A thick layer over a substandard base imo, but the results will be the same. Just DEEPER cracks and more to dig out to do it properly but, by then the whole IR will be just a bitter memory. Watch and learn
Who said Jay Miller’s are not on the ISLAND this year
ISLAND ROADS ARE.
Look like another fudged issue.
Island roads are artful. They have been doing the easiest, and quickest roads first to then show how much ‘mileage’ rather than how badly ‘needed’ the roads they have dolloped at thick layer of poor quality tar mac upon have been ‘covered’
Really – best laugh I’ve had for ages
I was going to post a comment, but I can’t stop laughing long enough to do so!;)
What a crock of sh.t.who wrote this ! How many guys it take too change lightbulb….how many times can they keep re patching /bodging n resurfacing roads that arent even in need.
