Wight Tri member Laoise Bennis had a fantastic start to her season by winning the female overall race at the Eton Dorney Sprint Triathlon in June.
Laoise started with a solid swim time of 15:03 for the 750m swim and finished in 8th position overall. She then achieved 2nd with a time of 37:33 for the 4 lap, 19.2km run, enabling her to move into the lead.
Laoise posted the 3rd fastest female bike split and the 3rd fastest 5km run of 22:01 to finish in 1:16:55. These times with her quick transitions took her to 1st female position overall and top spot on the podium. This was a fantastic result, bearing in mind her 1st triathlon was the Wight Tri sprint last April.
Laoise said:
“I absolutely loved competing today and for the 1st time in my new Wight Tri-suit! I had a lingering cough during the week, so I put no pressure on myself going into the race.
“To find myself at the front during the bike was very unexpected, I thought I just wasn’t paying attention to the other females on the course as I definitely wasn’t at the front of the swim. It was such a surprise to win being new to the sport, so I can’t wait to see where I can go from here.”
