Jacob Jordan will be captain of Sandown & Shanklin RFC 1st XV next season.
Jacob Jordan began his career with Sandown & Shanklin in 2015, graduating from Vectis RFC and making his 1st appearances with the Club at scrum-half.
Following 2 seasons of rugby, Jacob cemented himself as the 1st choice scrum-half and played a role in helping the team reach the LSW 3 play-off in 2018/19. After this, he went to university where he ended up plying his trade for Alresford RFC, and played against his teammates for 2 seasons, before returning to the island and Sandown & Shanklin in 2022. Since returning Jacob has evolved from a back, into a forward, now equally at home at flanker, as he was scrum half.
Sandown & Shanklin, Director of Rugby, Damien Marriott shared his views on the appointment of Jacob has his 1st XV skipper for the forthcoming season:
“Now the playing side is sorted, I cannot wait to get started with pre-season. I am delighted that Mike is staying on 1 more year as 2nd XV Captain, to continue his excellent work alongside Tony.
“Matt becoming Jacob’s Vice-Captain for is huge. As Matt missed out on so much rugby last season due to injury, it is going to feel like we have picked up a new player with his return. The boys all love him, and the intensity and energy he brings will definitely lift the playing group.
“I am delighted that JJ has accepted my offer as skipper, having the pleasure of watching him play and mature into a great player over the last few seasons has been enjoyable. We have spoke about playing a new style and a new position last season for Jacob, and he has taken the opportunity with both hands, and worked tremendously hard.
“The Club and JJ are reaping those rewards, and I have no doubt whatsoever, that he is ready for the challenge ahead, having played under some great former captains. I’m excited to see what Jacob has to offer, with his own style and flair.”
Newly elected 1st XV Captain, Jacob Jordan, shared his thoughts on accepting the position:
“It is an absolute honour to be in a position to Captain the Club that has done so much to shape the person I am today.
“From my first day at Sandown & Shanklin, the 3 things that stood out for me were the aspiration, intensity, and camaraderie, shown by all those involved at the club. And it is with these foundational components, I hope to lead on.”
New SSRFC 1st XV Vice-Captain, Matt Miselbach is keen to make a mark in the forthcoming season.
Matt said:
“I have been involved with SSRFC since I was a kid watching games, as a teenager training through to today playing for the Club. Throughout this time, I’ve been fortunate enough to be around role models from different generations, who have helped me develop on and off the field.
“I’m hoping as Vice-Captain I’ll be able to provide the some of the same support which I was fortunate enough to receive. I look forward to a positive season and working with the young talent we have coming through whilst continuing to learn from the senior members of our squad.”
Michael Cooper reflected on his decision to skipper the 2nd XV for a third season:
“It is a real privilege to be going into my third season as 2nd XV Captain. The potential within the squad is really exciting to see, from the colts coming up, to players battling for places in the 1st XV. Get ready for a big season for the club!”
Whilst the Summer break is now in full swing, news will be coming soon with the league and fixtures confirmed shortly, and pre-season fixtures for the Club. It is set to be an exciting season, with the Rugby World Cup beginning, whilst the new season takes off in September.
