Sandown & Shanklin RFC Vets clinched the Hampshire Vets Cup in style at the weekend, overpowering Petersfield RFC Vets 22 – 80 in a thrilling match. Centre Luke Chandler stole the show with a remarkable display, crossing the try line an impressive 6 times. Andy White showcased his prowess with the Hurricanes second score of the afternoon. Luke Hunter added another highlight, scoring a stunning try following a marvelous chip by fly-half Gary Warvill. Gary was named Wightfibre Man of the Match, rolling back the years with a stellar performance, including a sensational try for himself. The first half ended with Sandown leading 31-10. The second half saw the floodgates open for the try scoring, with Joe Rees, Dan Taylor, and club legend Adam Tyas scoring. Adam’s try was his first try for the club in over a decade, contributing to the scoring frenzy, with Warvill putting the finishing touches on the result with another try as the Hurricanes sealed a convincing 80 – 22 victory. Chapeau to Club and Vets Captain Greg Dean, for organising and leading the team from the early stages of the competition to success on finals day, like trying to herd an older group of cats! Equally a round of applause to outgoing Director of Rugby Damien Marriott, and Ross Edmunds, for their support, coaching and off-field management on match days.
