Rookley’s Football Development Centre has once again been damaged by vandals, with a gate broken and the pitch ruined by a vehicle that has seemingly driven over it.
Vandals have once again targeted the Football Development Centre in Rookley and breaking a gate and damaging the pitch by driving a vehicle over it.
The centre had previously been vandalised in May as first reported by Island Echo when there was an attempted break-in at a shed and pitch marking equipment was broken.
The damage was discovered by Newport IW FC co-manager, Stewart Shepherd, on Thursday evening. He said:
“Absolutely fuming to find the venue in this state. Tonight, we had our u14s training session but when we arrived, we found the pitch in this state.
“What is up with some people? I really can’t understand what they get out of doing things like this. Everyone at the club and Rookley village hall work so hard for this facility to be available for community use but some people feel the need to lift the gate of the hinges and drive in and do this.
“With the season starting soon, we will now have to try and get the pitches back in a fit state for the children to play on. Gutted for the kids and just hope it recovers in time for the season.”

Yet Bembridge football pitch has no gate and no such damage.
Seems like it is the charity kept youth that causes the most damage and cost us the most.
Perhaps it is high time to not ‘fund’ people to breed now. Too many get free or cheap rent c.tax and hundreds a week to pay for uneeded, unwanted, and troubled children who are vile to have in society despite being given the most.
