Fly-tippers have once again struck again in Newport, with vehicle wheels, black bags of rubbish, a sofa and a car stereo amongst the items dumped.
Island Echo was made aware of the latest rubbish-related atrocity yesterday evening (Wednesday), and has been shown photos of the latest additions to the hedgerow on St George’s Down.
It comes after a large stack of waste was left in nearly the same spot just last week. A long string of incidents of fly-tipping have occured across the Island in recent months, with 575 incidents being recorded in 2019/20.
Fly-tipping is the illegal deposit of any waste onto land that does not have a licence to accept it – commonly this is household or commercial rubbish being dumped at the side of the road and in fields.
Despite a large number of reported incidents, Island Echo revealed earlier this month that the Isle of Wight Council had not issued a single fine regarding illegal waste dumping, even though some of the incidents involved harmful asbestos.

Well new council your chance to sort this out as the last lot did nothing about this at all
Scum im afraid and we will get more and more of this! Come on ladies and gents start sorting this issue out its totally destroying a once beautiful Island and the wildlife is suffering!
I do hope the change in the Council will bring about a sudden change in things that are done and these dumpers are brought to swift justice. It’s about time.
Absolute low life who think this is ok to fly tip. They are thick, they must be, not computer literate at all. All they have to do us book a time slot online and go dump it at the tip. Simples. Though the people who do this are SIMPLE. They have no care for the wildlife and the beautiful surroundings they live in. Now we have a new council, your time is coming fly tippers!!!!!
Very dissgriminating , you’re so called simple people are alot better ,kinder and more interested in the environment and nature and helping others than most of the selfish stuck up rich pompas twit’s. Does not mean they fly tip , which we all agree is wrong. I say a name and shame page for fly tippers,at least would know then who not use ,and keep an eye out for. If council can issue a fixed penalties for dropping a napkin on street,why can’t they for fly tipping ? 500 plus and not one fine?. At least track them and return their waste to them. ( With a hidden tracker to see what they do with it?
Well it’s only going to get worse, because as everyone knows it was reported no one got prosecuted last year, so free for all now, no deterant
In British society, it’s the worse types of people who thrive the most. It’s been that way for years and getting worse. Mostly thanks to the do gooder social reformers who want the worse types of people all spread out and living amongst everyone else and won’t hear a word against them because their bad behaviour signifies their “underprivileged” backgrounds as far as the do good nutters are concerned. But when the do gooders meet someone who had a more underprivleged background but who did not grow up the same they hate them as it proves the do good brigade wrong and means there is less excuse for the bad behaviour of these people.
