Island school pupils will have their curiosity sparked and minds blown as Winchester Science Centre brings back the free Noël Turner Science Festival on 30th June and 1st July 2022.
Year 5 students from all of the Island’s schools will be able to experience live science and get hands-on with interactive workshops.
The festival, hosted by Cowes Enterprise College, is free to attend and schools and home educators can start signing up now. Set up in 2016 in memory of Noël Turner, a radar engineer at BAE Systems, the event aims to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers, and mathematicians and to support everyone involved with teaching and promoting STEM subjects.
Live science, engaging workshops and talks by expert local businesses have all been designed to give Isle of Wight students the confidence to see STEM as a fun and exciting subject as well as a potential future career path. Winchester Science Centre’s Inspirers, expert science communicators, will be bringing all the wow of the Hampshire science centre to the festival. Students will enjoy an explosive live science show in the school hall, hands-on workshops, and some of the Centre’s most exciting interactive exhibits.
Applications to become an exhibitor are also open now. As with previous years, many local businesses will be involved, highlighting the work they do and how local children can get into their field of expertise.
In previous years, children were able to interact with some of the Isle of Wight and Hampshire’s biggest STEM related industries, including Airbus and BAE Systems. There was also a chance to meet some of the Island’s smaller independent businesses and charities such as the Isle of Wight Zoo (now Wildheart Animal Sanctuary) and IFPL, electronics specialists.

We’ve got an even more exciting, action-packed and inspirational event planned this year, and we can’t wait to meet the Island’s students and hopefully inspire the next generation of STEM superstars.”
The 2-day event has been organised by Winchester Science Centre and the Festival Steering Group.
