East Cowes Sports Reserves won the Isle of Wight Junior ‘B’ Cup at Beatrice Avenue by beating Bembridge ‘A’ on Thursday 21st April.
ECS won the game thanks to 3 1st half goals. The 1st was an 8-yard effort from Roland Bryan after 19 minutes; the 2nd, a Luke Oatley header in the 34th minute; the 3rd, a strike from Bryan after a goalmouth scramble a minute from half time.

In the 2nd half, Bembridge had several chances to score, with Aaron Hartup unable to beat the ECS keeper in a 1-on-1 situation, and Jamie Parsons shooting over the crossbar from a promising position. However, the East Cowes side soaked up the pressure for 45 minutes to lift the trophy with a respectable scoreline.

Bembridge ‘A’ manager Andy Bennett said:
“It was a great performance against a good footballing side. A couple of mistakes in the 1st half led to some soft goals which cost us. We came out strong in the 2nd half but just couldn’t put our chances away.”
The Junior ‘B’ final marked the final appearance for club legend, 53-year-old Julian Conway who has played for Bembridge for 38 years from the age of 15.

Hampshire Trophy Final: Stoneham Reserves 1-1 Shanklin (Stoneham won 4-2 on penalties)
Shanklin fell at the final hurdle in the final of the Hampshire Trophy against a young Stoneham side whose oldest player was just 24 years old. Shanklin took the lead through a 28th minute penalty from Iain Seabrook; Stoneham equalized shortly before half time through Cian Cleary.
Half time: Stoneham Reserves 1-1 Shanklin
In the 2nd half, Shanklin had 2 players – Jordan Cook and Ben Gregory – booked, then Brad Young sent off for a 2nd bookable offence. Shanklin were unlucky not to take the lead in the closing stages of the game when Seabrook had a strong free kick well saved by the Stoneham keeper.

After the game, Shanklin manager Paul Haward said:
“Absolutely gutted for the lads and the club to come up short in the Hampshire cup final. It’s never easy to lose in a penalty shootout but credit to the lads to have the courage to step up and take 1 in that situation. AFC Stoneham are a very, very good footballing side and their young lads have a very bright future ahead of them. Gutted, but so proud of the lads involved yesterday, absolute credit to the club.”
