Islanders and visitors heading to the coast this summer are being reminded to heed notices about dangerous paths and cliff edges by a local Coastguard team.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team say that they have been notified about people trying to climb over path closures and onto an area of dangerous landslip between Forelands and Whitecliff Bay.
The path has been closed following a large landslip in the area, with the surrounding land and cliff edges remaining very unstable.
A spokesperson for Bembridge CRT has said:
“Please do not try and climb in these areas as they are unstable and not safe – the footpath is closed for a reason.
“Enjoy the fabulous weather, but stay safe.
“If you do see people climbing the cliffs in this area dial 999 and ask for COASTGUARD”.
All the council has to do, is TELL every land owner, that WHENEVER a landslip happens, the fence will be moved two metres inland.
NO ifs’ butts, that or ‘right to roam’ is given free access across the land.
Too much cost and time delay fuss. Just DO IT.

I’m confused by both these comments, if the fence is simply moved two meters inland surely that leaves two meters of dangerous cliff edge unfenced for easier access and, secondly, the footpaths aren’t closed for resurfacing or Wightfibre, it’s because they’ve become dangerous. For an advised detour, no matter that it’s less pleasant or longer, follow the road.
The cliff edge was NEVER fenced as most are not.
