This year will be the 56th year of powerboat racing from Cowes, which is to include the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes and Cowes-Poole-Cowes races.
Organisers are going all out to make this event as spectacular as possible and are aiming to keep spectators entertained in Cowes until the return leg of the race some 4 hours later. A large TV screen is to be erected in the Marina, similar to those used during Cowes Week.
Martin Levi, the Race Director of The British Powerboat Racing Club has expressed his thanks Cowes Town Council for their generous donation of £2,000 which will help towards funding this project.
With the facility of big screens showing parts of the race for spectators to enjoy as the event unfolds, local businesses are being given the opportunity to advertise at a cost of just £100 per advert at the same time. These adverts will be shown continually over the course of the weekend.
Cowes Medina IW Councillor Lora Peacey Wilcox has always been impressed with the Powerboat Racing. She said:
“I am always so surprised at the numbers of people that come over to Cowes for the racing. I think because it is a short event people really enjoy spending time in our town, and making the most of our fabulous restaurants and shops.
“I was delighted to support Cowes Town Council funding this event. I hope many of the Island people will enjoy the racing”.
