The Isle of Wight Council has awarded funding to 11 organisations who will deliver youth provision across the Island.
During May and June, the council sought applications from organisations to provide youth opportunities for young people aged 11 to 19 and up to 25 for those with additional needs as part of a new youth offer. Working in partnership with Community Action Isle of Wight, the council set aside £1 million to fund various activities over the next three years.
After evaluating 20 applications that were received, funding ranging from just under £10,000 to over £200,000 has been awarded to various organisations. Amongst the organisations to be awarded funding are the Foyer, West Wight Sports Centre, Island Scouts, Ventnor Town Council, Pan Together and Quay Arts.
Each organisation will provide a form of youth provision, such as a new youth cafe, creative arts, outdoor activities and social enterprises.
Councillor Richard Priest, Executive member for children’s services, said:
“I want to thank all the organisations who applied for funding to provide the new youth offer. After evaluating the bids, we have now been able to award funding to a wide variety of activities in locations across the Island.
“We will soon have a very modern, fit for purpose youth offer, giving young people a choice of activities such as creative arts, sport, media and social skills.
“I look forward to the new activities taking shape and I am sure they will prove very popular.”

The changes were developed following a review of the council’s existing youth service. A consultation took place earlier this year involving young people, town and parish councils, youth service practitioners and the voluntary and community sector.
The organisations awarded are:
- Pan Together – £9,705
- YMCA – £35,000
- Footprint Trust – £120,000
- Ventnor Town Council – £86,833
- Revive Newport – £140,000
- Brading- £100,000
- Foyer – £202,500
- West Wight Sports Centre – £85,000
- Quay Arts – £80,000
- South Wight Area Youth Partnership – £80,000
- Island Scouts – £35,000
