Iconic car ‘Bumblebee’ from the hit film Transformers will be driving around the Isle of Wight today (Friday).
The black and yellow Chevrolet Camero 6.2 litre V8 came across the Solent on the 10:00 Wightlink ferry from Portsmouth and is set to return at 18:00 from Fishbourne. Throughout the day it will visit Ryde Pier at 11:30 then tour the Island, including the world-renowned dinosaur coast.
The unique vehicle’s visit comes as Visit Isle of Wight announce the details of a new £500,000 tourism campaign of Time Travel, tying in with Transformers: Age of Extinction.
A brand new TV advert, voiced by Cowes resident Celia Imrie, will promote the Isle of Wight and will encourage visitors to use the ‘time traveller’s passport’ to explore attractions around the Island and the beautiful coastline and countryside. The commercial, which is to be aired next month, will feature characters from Transformers.
During the summer holidays smart phone users also will be able to view an updated version of the augmented reality trail, which includes a surprise appearance from one of the movie stars and a chance to win a visit to Paramount Studios in Hollywood, USA.
Island Echo captured the car rolling off the Wightlink ferry at the start of its Island-wide journey earlier this morning, leading the unloading of vehicles.
Wightlink Head of Marketing, Mark Persad said:
“We’ve carried all kinds of vehicles to and from the Isle of Wight over the years but we’ve never shipped a Transformer!
“Last year’s big movie was all about dinosaurs, in 2014 everyone’s going to be talking about Dinobots.”
Bumblebee is an Autobot (one of the good guys) from the Transformers movies and the main character alongside Optimus Prime. Sadly the car will not be transforming while on the Island.
