Residents in Brading are being urged to participate in the annual Brading Scarecrow Festival, with plenty of tributes to the Island’s key workers expected in 2020.
This year’s festival will run from 28th August to 6th September and organisers say it is an ideal opportunity to say a big thank you to NHS workers and other essential workers, who have been stars in supporting the local community. Any other type of scarecrow will be fun too – the wackier the better!
Entry costs just £1 per scarecrow with forms available from Brothers, the Rectory Mansion Coffee Shop, Premier Store and 18 Quay Lane. For enquiries email [email protected] or visit www.bragiow.co.uk.
Closing date for entries is 21st August, with trail maps available from the above from 27th August onwards.
Over the weekend of 29th/30th/31st August, Brading will also be hosting a ‘Sale Trail’.
This event is like a car boot, but instead of you taking your goodies to a sale, people come to you! The addresses will be added to the scarecrow Trail map and will cover the whole of the Brading area.
The registration closing date is 12th August. Entry is £5 for the 3 days.
Proceeds from these events will support the local community.

Well done to everyone who takes part in this each year! The work and imagination that is put into those figures is a treat for everyone who sees them 🙂 -Let’s just hope that anyone driving past and looking at them still maintains full control of their vehicle, what with all the “accidents” lately!
We do hope this years festival will bring a lot of fun and laughter, so to take away any accident risk – park up, pick up a trail map and walk the course, you might see parts of Brading you never knew existed!! We are no a drive through town, we have lots to offer. Also, not forgetting the Sale trail is also on, details of which are included on the trail map, so – Scarescrows and bargain buys, two for the price of one so to speak, but of course it is free anyway, unless you make a bargain buy!!
We ask everyone to be mindful of Covid requirements, bring you hand gel, wear a mask where appropriate and maintain a safe distance. Thank you.
