Bembridge’s Neighbourhood Development Plan – the first on the Isle of Wight to go forward to a local referendum – is set to be included in the Isle of Wight Council’s planning policy.
The referendum was held yesterday (Thursday) and saw nearly 40% of Bembridge residents turn out to vote, with 1222 (92%) voting yes whilst 108, just 8%, voted against the plan.
Bembridge Parish Council and the Neighbourhood Plan Working Group say they are extremely proud of this achievement, which has been two and a half years in the making.
The vision of the plan is “To maintain and enhance the unique self-contained character of Bembridge Village whilst permitting small scale sustainable growth that is in line with the needs and wishes of the community”.
