Medina Bookshop in Cowes is set to host a special literary evening celebrating bold, complex and compelling female characters in contemporary fiction.
Taking place on Wednesday 23rd April at 19:00, the event – titled “Why Women Of A Certain Age Make The Best Characters” – will bring together authors Julia Tuffs and Amy Beashel in conversation with fellow writer Kate Weston.
The trio will explore shared themes within their latest novels, focusing on the richness, depth and authenticity of women’s stories shaped by experience, resilience and reinvention.
Julia Tuffs, who has strong connections to the Isle of Wight, brings a distinctive voice influenced by the Island’s community and landscape, often exploring relationships and the layered realities of women’s lives.
Amy Beashel is known for her sharp and contemporary storytelling, writing with insight and wit about modern womanhood, identity and the pressures faced by women today.
Chairing the discussion is Kate Weston, an acclaimed author recognised for her engaging and relatable fiction, who will guide the conversation through the overlapping themes in the authors’ work.
The event will also include an audience Q&A, offering attendees the chance to hear directly from the writers about their creative processes and inspirations.
Tickets are priced at £5 and are available from Medina Bookshop in person or via the shop’s website. Early booking is advised as spaces are limited.
