Figures released by NHS England show 105,668, – or 71.6% of Islanders – have had their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine with a total of 93,726 second doses also administered.
The news comes in the week the NHS announced the closure of the Riverside vaccine centre at the end of the month. As previously reported by Island Echo, the centre will close on 26th August but hubs will still be operating at Newport Medical Centre in Carisbrooke, West Wight Sport and Community Centre in Freshwater and Westridge Centre, Ryde.
It has also been announced this week that the rollout of the potentially life-saving vaccine is being expanded to include 16 and 17-year-olds. On the Island, only 520 under 18s have had their first vaccine, with fewer than half that having had their second.
Islanders are being reminded that there are still walk-in clinics available at the Riverside before it closes.

And ??? Now told even if vaccinated you need to wear a mask, you can still catch it, you can still spread it…….. Started off the elderly and those at risk, now school kids need it. And on it goes. It’s is going to run it’s course regardless.
Best off luck, keep the faith.
They never ever said it’ll stop you getting it. It reduces your changes of getting it by 80%. And if you do get it, it is a lot milder. The vaccine has turned this virus from a killer to an annoyance, if you choose to have the vaccine. Yes I agree, it will run it’s course regardless. The choice is, do you help to protect the people around you or not? People who refuse all attempts to reduce the spread are saying to everyone “I am so important and special that you don’t count and to hell with you”. It’s the height of inconsideration and rudeness.
Clown. It’s utterly pointless as it doesn’t stop you getting it or spreading it so it’s a complete waste of time. The media don’t tell you about the countless people who have been ill as a result of having it as a result I’ll never ever have it.
The MHRA has received 478 UK reports of suspected ADRs to the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine in which the patient died shortly after vaccination, 1,024 reports for the COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca, eight for the COVID-19 Vaccine Moderna and 26 where the brand of vaccine was unspecified.

Is there going to be the Moderna option offered here? There’s so much confusing information and claims and counterclaims. Can’t seem to find any proper info about anything much only what they want you to know. I thought this country was supposed to pride itself on its freedom of speech, but so much is being suppressed. Why can’t people *choose* which vaccine to have? After reports about the astra zeneca one, people should be able to say which one they want. It is after all, going into their own biological systems, don’t they have a right to say what goes into it and to question the risks?
It can be confusing if you’ve put yourself in an echo chamber. Stop using google and go to your local library, they will help you. Many scientific journals with peer reviewed papers on the subject. The vaccine is safe, it’s been shown to be safe a million times over. What is funny all the people that think it is not safe are the same ones smoking tobacco and drugs and drinking alcohol. Don’t seen to be too worried about what they are putting in their bodies.
When the vaccination started all the covidiots were saying we’ll all die from it. Well, seems to be the complete reverse, it’s saving lives. Despite infections remaining high deaths in hospital is remaining low. Almost like the people how have PHDs know what they are talking about. And the idiots on social media who used google one evening or watched youTube don’t.
A covidiot is people like you believing all the BS in the media. You don’t know about the countless people who have been ill as a result of taking the vaccine do you.
What illnesses have they had from having the vaccine? People need to be told the truth.
