BT looks set to remove another 7 public telephone boxes on the Isle of Wight, adding to the 42 already removed or being removed.
An initial consultation was launched in September last year to permanently remove 16 telephone boxes from towns and villages across the Island. Just 3 months later, in December 2019, a further 26 telephone boxes were listed as being cut off.
Now, the universal service provider has notified the Isle of Wight Council of their plan to rip out the rather old fashioned method of communication from even more locations.
The average number of calls per month for the 7 call points collectively is 13. The least used are The Bull Ring and Nettlestone Green with 0 average calls per month.
The telephone boxes to be removed in this latest round of cuts include:

- Main Road, Brighstone (outside The Three Bishops)
- Carisbrooke Road, Newport (junction with Cavendish Place)
- Adelaide Grove, East Cowes (junction of Upper Yarborough Road)
- Nettlestone Green, Seaview (outside Apple Acre)
- The Diggings, St Helens
- The Bull Ring, Brading

I see Bembridge is bucking the trend and is having it’s phone box fully refurbished by the wet fish monger, it a rather odd, unusual one.
It’s also the oldest in the U.K. & therefore protected.
I believe the Bembridge phone box has historical merit and is the only working one, of it’s s kind, in the country
This is a K1 phone box from the 1920s. There are only half a dozen still in existence, and only two that are still ‘on the street’. The other is oop north somewhere. Someone told me you can still make a call for 2p, but I am not sure about this.
