5 Wight Tri members were among almost 1,000 competitors in the Cotswold 113 – a half-Ironman distance event – consisting of a 1.2-mile lake swim, 58-mile bike ride, and a 13.1 mile run.
1st home for Wight Tri was Craig Wilson. This was Craig’s 1st effort at this distance with a target of a sub-5-hour time. Starting with a good swim of 34:54 and then a strong bike of 2:37:29, Craig finished with a 1:40:25 run to just sneak under his target time with a total of 4:58:28. This gave him an overall position of 49th male and 6th position in the 50+ age category.
Daniel Morgan was next home. Starting with a personal best swim of 34:08, he then posted the fastest bike split of the group with a time of 2:34:19 – 24th overall against a very strong field. A good run of 1:57:38 brought him home in an overall time of 5:11:56: 73rd male and 19th in the 40-44 age category.
Daniel was closely followed by Nick Kenney, who had a strong swim of 37:05 and bike ride of 2:48:47. Finishing with the fastest run split of the group in 1:39:15, this gave him an overall time of 5:12:24: 76th male overall and 10th in the 50+ category.
Paul Webb posted the fastest swim of the group with a time of 32:40 and then a strong bike of 2:21:33. Finishing with a much-improved run time of 2:32:08, this gave Paul an overall time of 5:55:21 and 267th male. Comfortably under his 6-hour target and over 33 minutes faster than his previous PB at this distance, this result puts Paul in great shape for his full Ironman distance event next month.
Kevin Winchcombe – after having a few races out – was next home with a swim of 37:16, bike of 3:11:19, and run of 2:43:30, giving him an overall time of 6:41:12: 393rd male and 96th in the 50+ category.
Great results lads, doing the Island proud.
